Child Sexual Abuse Inquiries and the Catholic Church: Reassessing the Evidence. Second Edition, Revised and Expanded, 2025

Based on the evidence in these official inquiries it concludes that child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in these countries, while widespread from 1960-1990 is largely an historical problem; there are relatively few instances of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in recent decades. Safeguarding mechanisms introduced into the Catholic Church since the 1990s have been effective in curbing child sexual abuse. The analysis in this book stands in contrast to sensationalistic, uninformed media reporting on the problem. The book is a second revised and expanded edition, with previously unreleased content.

However, to date no work has been published in biblical scholarship that on the one hand includes interpretations of both Hebrew Bible and New Testament writings under the perspective of irony, and on the other hand offers a panorama of the approaches to the different types and functions of irony in biblical texts.
The following volume: (1) reevaluates scholarly definitions of irony and the use of the term in biblical research; (2) builds on existing methods of interpretation of ironic texts; (3) offers judicious analyses of methodological approaches to irony in the Bible; and (4) develops fresh insights into biblical passages.

not received serious attention in the scholarly literature on
euthanasia, namely, that of the coercive imposition (by way of
sanction-backed regulations) of the practice of voluntary active
euthanasia (in particular) on faith-based, aged-care organizations.
In Section 1 we outline the relevant conceptual background
drawing on existing literature. In Section 2, we consider two
conflicting ethical standpoints on voluntary active euthanasia. In
Section 3 we outline the nature and extent of the push to
impose the practice of voluntary active euthanasia on Catholic-run
aged-care organizations. In Section 4 we argue that the
argument for coercively imposing the practice of voluntary active
euthanasia on faith-based, aged-care organizations, is not wellmade, especially in the context of liberal democracies committed
to pluralism.

This article offers an analysis of the findings of the Royal Commission, as far as they relate to the Catholic Church in Australia, as a starting point for the discussion. After all, an authentic response to the Royal Commission—let alone genuinely constructive proposals as opposed to knee jerk reactions— presupposes an objective analysis of its findings. In the course of providing this analysis, I discuss the limitations of the investigative processes of the Royal Commission. I also offer a corrective to the inaccurate media accounts of the findings of the Royal Commission.

Yet, there are few detailed scholarly analyses concerning the specific type of irony to be found in the Book of Job. Moreover, there is even less scholarship on the relationship between irony and genre. Further, there is considerable confusion regarding the different types and grades of irony. One common error is to assume that verbal irony is necessarily spoken irony. Another shortcoming concerns the relationship between verbal irony and the genre of satire. Verbal irony is often discussed without reference to satire. Yet a pervasive sense of verbal irony is definitive of satire. The following discussion aims to clear up some of this confusion.

This paper will focus on one branch of that commitment – the Roman Catholic and Anglican story. In the first section of this paper Virginia Ingram discusses the history of the Roman Catholic and Anglican dialogue, including the theological underpinnings of ecumenism, obstacles to ecumenical unity and the practical outcomes of the dialogue including visible unity and mission. In the second section of this paper Ray Williamson discusses the ARCIC within the broader ecumenical movement. In the concluding section of this paper Harold Ellens discusses the psycho-spiritual obstacles to reunion and the hermeneutical imperative to do so regardless. This paper is to serve as a preliminary introduction to a course of study on ecumenical action between the Roman Catholic Church and Anglican Communion.
