𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮-𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰: 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗴𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗵 💧 Driven by targeted national programmes, rural household water security in Bangladesh has improved over recent years. However, over 22 million Bengalis are exposed to arsenic #water contamination, particularly in the Barind and coastal regions 💧 Water allocation across agriculture and industry remains inefficient due to a lack of abstraction permits, pricing mechanisms, and integrated water budgeting 💧 Institutional silos, weak enforcement, and limited financing constrain the operationalisation of Integrated Water Resources Management (#IWRM) in the country. Based on the case study findings, it is recommended that Bangladesh institutionalise cross-sectoral coordination, enforce environmental flow standards, develop sustainable financing mechanisms, expand urban WASH investments, and integrate slow-onset climate hazards into national water and climate planning frameworks to address the above challenges and to ensure inclusive, #ClimateResilient #WaterGovernance by 2030. GWP proudly provided technical oversight to five comprehensive country-level case studies published in AWDO 2025. Asian Development Bank (ADB) intends to use the findings to inform Country Partnership Strategies (CPS) and design actionable #water projects that align with national development goals and #SDG targets. Last year, the SV4CASH project helped strengthen flood resilience in Uganda through: 💧 A community vulnerability assessment, which identified flooding as the most significant local hazard. 🎒 Training of around 70 community members in a vulnerable area on flood preparedness, early warning signs, and safety measures. 🗺️ Practical exercises that helped students identify high-risk areas in their community and gain hands-on experience in understanding local flood risks. AWDO 2025 provides governments and partners with a practical framework for policy dialogue, investment planning, and collaboration across borders, positioning #WaterSecurity at the center of sustainable development and the achievement of Strategy 2030. Hosted by Alex Simalabwi , GWPO CEO & Executive Secretary of Global Water Partnership & GWP Technical Advisors Jaehyang So ( Chair), Dr Alex Money, Per Bertilsson, the Afdb engagement is part of our ongoing global transformation agenda that includes collaboration with MDBs globally & follows the inaugural GWP global Board Meeting in June including our Board engagement at State House with H.E Netumbo Nandi- Ndaitwa President of Republic of Namibia 🇳🇦. DONE and dusted! What an incredible week at the iNNO SED Summer School 2026! From June 28th to July 3rd, young researchers from across Europe and beyond came together in Göd, Hungary, for an intensive week dedicated to sediment management, river processes, and sustainable water management. Organised by Global Water Partnership - Central and Eastern Europe (GWP-CEE) and hosted by the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) at its Danube research facilities in Göd, the Summer School combined scientific excellence with practical, hands-on experience. 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤, 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐝: 🌊 River dynamics, sediment transport, and river morphology, 🛶 Field measurements on the Danube using state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and research boats, 🧪 Laboratory analyses and advanced sediment monitoring techniques, 💻 Hydrodynamic and sediment modelling, environmental data analysis, and digital tools, 🛰️ Earth Observation applications for river monitoring and management, 🤝 Interdisciplinary teamwork addressing real-world sediment management challenges. The programme also included a study visit to the Szentendrei Island restoration site and the nearby water well, where participants learned how river restoration measures and riverbank filtration help ensure safe drinking water while supporting sediment balance, healthy river ecosystems, and long-term water resilience. The Summer School concluded with participants presenting the outcomes of their group work, demonstrating the knowledge and skills they had developed throughout the week. The programme closed with the awarding of certificates, celebrating the successful completion of an inspiring week of learning, collaboration, and international exchange. Beyond the lectures and field activities, the Summer School fostered new friendships, interdisciplinary collaboration, and valuable professional connections that we hope will continue well beyond this week. A heartfelt thank you to all participants for their enthusiasm and commitment throughout the week. We are especially grateful to all lecturers and technicians from BME, lecturers from University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), and GeoZS - Geological Survey of Slovenia for generously sharing their expertise and inspiring the next generation of river professionals.
