This paper demonstrates a vernacular way of interpreting and safeguarding intangible heritage in an ethnic Miao village in China. Tracing the conflicting discourses of ritual in different stages of the past and the present, it shows how ritual practices were transformed by imperial Qing officials in mid 19th century, demonized and denounced as feudal superstition during Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), exploited as cultural resources for ethnic tourism since the early 20th century and involved in the evaluation system of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in the 21st century. Based on ethnographic materials collected in 2008 and 2009, this paper argues that it is the inherited vernacular narratives and ritual performances that are negotiating with the state's constant effort of shaping the ritual through various discourses, construct the meaning of inheritance and safeguard the intangible heritage within the community.

This paper examines the dynamic interplay between language policy and local stakeholders in the process of dialect planning in the city of Shanghai, in the context of social tensions surrounding the decline of Shanghai dialect in mainland China. A process-oriented Language Management Theory (LMT) model is adopted as the analytical framework to reveal the interactive facet of micro language planning. Drawing on in-depth interviews and document analysis, the paper analyzes and interprets ten key players' perceptions and experiences in relation to the 'saving Shanghai dialect' movement. Qualitative data analysis demonstrates five stages in the dialect planning process and reveals how individuals' agency, when struggling and striving for local language rights, exert bottom-up influence upon language policy-making. The findings also unravel the social political duality between macro structure and individual agency. The paper ends with a discussion on the need to negotiate the individual agency in a more interactive and democratic dialog with predefined policy constraints. This study may have implications for multilingual/multidialectal contexts in other geographical locations where linguistic diversity in the local contexts is encountering shifts in language use and language changes. Besides, this study may also enrich applicability of the LMT framework which reveals the interactive and dynamic process by unbundling individual responses and influences on language planning.

Myocardial perfusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with sliding-window conjugategradient highly constrained back-projection reconstruction (SW-CG-HYPR) allows whole left ventricular coverage, improved temporal and spatial resolution and signal/noise ratio, and reduced cardiac motion-related image artifacts. The accuracy of this technique for detecting coronary artery disease (CAD) has not been determined in a large number of patients. We prospectively evaluated the diagnostic performance of myocardial perfusion MRI with SW-CG-HYPR in patients with suspected CAD. A total of 50 consecutive patients who were scheduled for coronary angiography with suspected CAD underwent myocardial perfusion MRI with SW-CG-HYPR at 3.0 T. The perfusion defects were interpreted qualitatively by 2 blinded observers and were correlated with x-ray angiographic stenoses >50%. The prevalence of CAD was 56%. In the per-patient analysis, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of SW-CG-HYPR was 96% (95% confidence interval 82% to 100%), 82% (95% confidence interval 60% to 95%), 87% (95% confidence interval 70% to 96%), 95% (95% confidence interval 74% to100%), and 90% (95% confidence interval 82% to 98%), respectively. In the per-vessel analysis, the corresponding values were 98% (95% confidence interval 91% to 100%), 89% (95% confidence interval 80% to 94%), 86% (95% confidence interval 76% to 93%), 99% (95% confidence interval 93% to 100%), and 93% (95% confidence interval 89% to 97%), respectively. In conclusion, myocardial perfusion MRI using SW-CG-HYPR allows whole left ventricular coverage and high resolution and has high diagnostic accuracy in patients with suspected CAD.

This study was designed to evaluate the value of contrast-enhanced whole-heart coronary MRA (CMRA) at 3.0T in depicting the cardiac venous anatomy. In cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), left ventricular (LV) pacing is achieved by positioning the LV lead in one of the tributaries of the coronary sinus (CS). Pre-implantation knowledge of the venous anatomy may help determine whether transvenous LV lead placement for CRT is feasible. Images of 51 subjects undergoing contrast-enhanced whole-heart CMRA at 3.0T were retrospectively analyzed. In this work, we have prospectively examined the diagnostic value of adenosine-induced stress myocardial perfusion MRI using SW-CG-HYPR in 50 patients with suspected CAD. Using the high-resolution, whole left ventricle SW-CG-HYPR method, perfusion MRI was able to depict hemodynamically relevant coronary artery stenosis with an accuracy of 90% and 93% based on perpatient and per-vessel analyses, respectively, using x-ray coronary angiography as the reference standard.

Purpose: To prospectively evaluate noncontrast-enhanced (NCE), time resolved, four-dimensional (4D) magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) for assessment of cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM), with intraarterial digital subtraction angiography (DSA) performed as the reference standard.

Ethanol stability of fresh milk samples from five healthy dairy goats was investigated. Goat's milk samples precipitated upon addition of an equal volume of 44% ethanol, whereas fresh cow's milk typically precipitates at 70% ethanol addition. The effects of sodium and potassium on ethanol stability were also investigated. Addition of sodium chloride to goat's milk resulted in considerable increases in ethanol stability. In contrast, addition of potassium chloride resulted in a decrease of the stability. Thus, the salt balance of goat's milk may contribute to lower ethanol stability.

In these sentences, the two arguments adjacent to the verb can be interchangeable in syntactic position. Although previous research has provided partial descriptions and analyses of this grammatical phenomenon, there is still no comprehensive and systematic exploration of these reversible sentences. Employing a reductionist methodology, the study meticulously examines the interaction modes between the verb and its arguments in eight types of reversible sentence structures involving the addition or omission of argument roles. This analysis reveals a distinct pattern that highlights the centrality of an 'absolute argument' within these sentences. Building on these observations, the paper articulates the fundamental structural patterns of reversible sentences and concludes a unified explanatory framework. This research enriches our understanding of Mandarin Chinese syntax and offers valuable perspectives on the linguistic dynamics underlying reversible sentence construction.
