We’re deep in the midst of the summer's events, fairs and fêtes here in the Rosemere charity office! 🎪 We love getting out into the local community for these fab events, however, we're running low on prizes for our popular fundraising tombolas. Is there anything you (or members of your workplace) could donate? 🙏 🤗 The better the prizes at these events, the better chance they have of raising even more life-changing funds in support of local cancer care! We're looking for unused, unopened gift items, such as bath and body sets, household gifts, or toys/games. We’d also love non-perishable and in-date ‘foodie’ gifts, chocolates, bottles of wine or similar. If you have anything you'd like to donate for us to use as a tombola or raffle prize, you can drop it off at the Rosemere charity office in the Cancer Centre, which is open Mon-Fri, normally between 8.30 and 4.30. We'd like to give a HUGE thanks to everyone who joined us on the sands of Morecambe Bay for our annual Cross Bay Walk on Sunday! 🌊👣 Our sell-out walk saw over 330 people sign up to take on the iconic trek across the bay for us with the Guide over Sands Trust - and you've helped to raise in excess of £20,000 so far, with more still coming in! 👏 Thank you to all of our walkers, the generous donors who sponsored you, and our volunteers for helping to raise such a fantastic amount in support of cancer care across the region. Thank you too to CJ Photo for supporting with photography and LEYLAND BEDS AND FURNITURE LTD for so kindly sponsoring our event this year, helping to cover event costs so that as much raised through the walk as possible goes into our charitable funds to make a difference for local cancer patients, whether they're cared for here at the regional cancer centre at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust or elsewhere across Lancashire and the South Lakes ❤️

Thank you to all involved at Layer Surveys LTD for the fantastic support through a recent charity golf day! 🙌⛳ The Leyland-based company raised a wonderful £3,373.92 for us through the event at Penwortham Golf Club, of which the firm is also the main sponsor. A mix of clients and suppliers formed 22 teams of four to play the day’s competition, which offered the opportunity to anyone making a hole in one to leave with a brand new car. The prize, which went unclaimed, was donated by Manchester-based Latitude Leasing Ltd. Layers’ MD Darren Webster said: “This was our second annual golf day. We chose to support Rosemere Cancer Foundation in thanks for treatment one of the golf club’s directors is currently receiving at Rosemere Cancer Centre. We are very grateful to everyone who supported the golf day in any way.” Thanks so much for choosing us as your recipient charity - the funds raised will help us continue to make a real difference for cancer patients cared for here at the regional cancer centre at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and across Lancashire and the South Lakes ❤️🙏

🏃 There's still time to sign up for this year's City Of Preston road races on Sunday 9th August! We're one of the event's chosen charities, alongside our friends and colleagues at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity and Baby Beat - and we have charity places available 🤩 Whether you fancy taking on the 5 or 10-mile course, this fast, flat route - starting and finishing at Hutton Village Hall, Preston - is ideal for runners of all levels. It’s perfect if you're chasing a PB or training for a bigger challenge like the Great North Run too! We are offering our charity places in the event free of charge, and simply asking our runners to raise a minimum of £20 in support of local cancer care. Would you like to run for us? We'd like to give a MASSIVE thank you to Ed Cook and everyone else involved in the organisation of last month's Lytham Car Show. We're delighted to let you know that this year's spectacular event raised an incredible £45,000 for us! 🙌❤️ 👏 The record-breaking donation – raised by entry fees from those showing their vehicles, visitor car parking fees and and charitable activity on the day – was the largest yet with the annual Father’s Day car show becoming more popular and attracting more exhibitors and visitors year on year. Ed is the driving force behind this fantastic event, and he and his team have raised an amazing £165,000 for for us over the years - funds that have benefitted many hundreds of local cancer patients by funding life-changing local cancer projects. We'd also like to say thank you to all the marshals and other volunteers who helped to raise donations and ensure the show’s smooth running despite the scorching heat on the day, thank you to our photographer CJ Photo for these fab photos of the event, and of course a big thank you to the show's 2026 sponsor Beaverbrooks - we hugely appreciate the support in helping the event raise such a wonderful total! 🤗

Thanks to our lovely charity supporters, patients using the radiotherapy waiting area and coffee shop here at the Rosemere Cancer Centre can now do so in greater comfort after we used £51,446 of our charitable funds to purchase new tables and chairs for the area 🙌 🥰 The request for the new furniture was made by our Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust colleague, radiography team lead Daniel Humphray, in response to patient feedback. Of patients completing feedback forms, more than one in five had complaints about the old furniture. Daniel explained: “Up to 200 patients a day receive radiotherapy treatment at Rosemere Cancer Centre. “Of these, many wait for extended periods, especially those relying on patient transport to bring them in for and take them home from their appointments. The previous waiting room furniture was worn, mismatched and no longer fit for purpose. Some of the chairs were too low and had no armrests, causing difficulty for patients, particularly older and frail patients, to stand up safely.” Daniel continued: “Several tables were damaged with varnish peeling and surfaces appearing dirty despite regular cleaning. This negatively affected patient experience, not just in terms of their physical comfort but also, their mental wellbeing as unsuitable chairs and scruffy looking tables made relaxing more difficult, adding to patient stress and anxiety.” Daniel added: “Our aim was to improve patient experience and we have achieved this. We have received some really positive responses. We give feedback forms to patients nearing the end of their treatment and of those who returned them, half wrote the word ‘comfortable’ when asked to use their own words to now describe the waiting area and new furniture. “The old furniture hasn’t gone to waste though. It has been repurposed and reused in other areas of the hospital.” This new furniture will make a real difference to patients’ physical and mental wellbeing, improving their overall experience of their treatment.
