This study investigates the English writing difficulties encountered by third-year undergraduate ... more This study investigates the English writing difficulties encountered by third-year undergraduate students in the Faculty of Humanities at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. The research aimed to: (1) identify the specific problems in students' writing skills, and (2) explore solutions to address these challenges. A mixed-methods approach was employed, utilizing a 45-item questionnaire administered to 70 students and follow-up interviews with five instructors. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations. Results revealed that most students perceive writing as the most difficult language skill to master. Analysis identified vocabulary as the most pressing concern, with a serious problem level (x=3.80). Challenges with grammar (x=3.28) and spelling (x=3.14) were at a moderately high level, while punctuation presented a lower-level difficulty (x=2.72). The findings indicate that students often rely heavily on teacherprovided structures during the writing process. To ameliorate these issues, the study recommends targeted instruction in syntax, grammar, vocabulary, and the writing process, coupled with sustained practice.
