California’s new packaging fees are set to reshape the economics of plastic. Modern Retail recently covered SB 54, California’s extended producer responsibility law, and spoke with our own Sara Lowe about what it means for brands. As Sara shared, California’s market size means many brands fall under the law without realizing it. And while plastic has often been the more cost-effective packaging choice, that equation is starting to shift as material-specific fees are introduced. Her advice is simple: don’t wait to be the first mover. Once every brand is moving in the same direction, early action becomes the advantage. Read Sara’s insights on what brands are still missing about SB 54 👇 https://bit.ly/4vYLTgo #SB54 #EPR #Packaging #Retail #ExtendedProducerResponsibility

One in five Americans now lives in a state with packaging EPR laws, and California's SB 54 is already reshaping how brands choose materials, design packaging, and label what's recyclable. In a new Packaging Insights article, our CRO Sahar Mehrabzadeh breaks down what that shift looks like on the ground, from eco-modulated fees that reward fiber-based, right-sized designs to the SKU-level data brands now need from their suppliers to stay compliant. While the holidays may still be months away, we're taking a look back at the creative journey behind Bay Cities' 2025 holiday gift: the Bay Bus Charging Station. Our latest blog takes readers behind the scenes of the project and demonstrate that the Bay Bus Charging Station wasn't just a holiday gift—it was a reflection of the same creative thinking, innovation, and end-to-end capabilities we bring to our clients' packaging and retail display programs every day. Projects like this remind us that whether we're designing a holiday gift or helping a brand launch a new product, the goal is the same: create memorable experiences that help brands stand out on the shelf and win at retail. Packaging EPR laws are continuing to grow across the U.S., and brands now have to look more closely at what their packaging is made of, how it’s labeled, and what happens after it reaches the consumer. In a new @Packaging Insights article, our CRO @Sahar Mehrabzadeh shares how this change is creating a need for stronger packaging data and more intentional material decisions. For Bay Cities, this is where thoughtful packaging makes a real difference, helping brands balance compliance, cost, sustainability, and the consumer experience. Bay Cities just turned 70. LA Living Magazine took a close look at what got us here. The story traces our path from a corrugated box manufacturer founded by Bill Hanan in 1956 to a 100% employee-owned company operating as a design studio, technology innovator, logistics partner, and retail display solutions provider. Chairman & CEO Greg Tucker and CRO Sahar Mehrabzadeh reflect on 70 years of growth and where the company goes from here. Read the full feature: https://bit.ly/4vFJ8R4

EPR compliance starts long before a package reaches the shelf. With California’s SB 54 and other state-level EPR Programs developing, brands and retailers are facing new questions around packaging materials, data, reporting, design, and end-of-life responsibility. In a new Packaging Perspectives Podcast episode from Packaging Strategies Magazine, our CRO, Sahar Mehrabzadeh, and Sara Lowe, Senior Executive Administrator, explore how Bay Cities is helping brands make smarter packaging decisions earlier in the process. Tune in to the full episode to hear why SB 54 is, at its core, a data challenge: https://bit.ly/4wLTHTF #EPR #PackagingInsights #PackagingCompliance

Last week, our manufacturing team came together for our monthly Hoopla celebration—a time to review our performance, recognize outstanding employees, and strengthen the relationships that make us a better team. This month's festivities featured a fresh-off-the-grill Mexican feast, a talented Mariachi band, dancing... and the return of one of our most anticipated traditions: the dunk tank. 😄 💦 Plant team members got the chance to dunk their supervisors, creating plenty of laughs (and a few very wet managers). As a 100% employee-owned company, moments like these remind us that our culture is one of our greatest strengths. When people feel valued, recognized, and connected, they bring that same energy to serving our customers every day. Thank you to everyone who helped make this Hoopla another memorable celebration. Here's to recognizing great work, building stronger teams, and having a little fun along the way. #EmployeeOwnership #ESOP #CompanyCulture #Manufacturing #Teamwork #WorkHardPlayHard #EmployeeRecognition #BayCities
