🥇 Last week, we gathered in the Netherlands for our General Assembly, hosted by our partner Lightyear, and we had the chance to get our hands on one of the demonstrators of our project, a test car with the following specs: 🚗 Designed from the ground up to have a very low drag coefficient ☀️ Contains 5 m2 of glass-based solar panels. 🌍 The car can produce an additional 177 km of range based on an average summer week in the Netherlands. 🚀 The car is serving the purposes of the project, aiming to develop new Lightweight solar panels that can be integrated in vehicles. Lightyear is developing polymer-based panels, with a lower total weight that can translate to additional range. The demonstrator car is currently gathering data to prove the validity of the developed solutions. 🤔 Missed our booth at 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 Munich? Here is a quick recap of our key showcase highlights. We teamed up with the Sungrow floating PV team to present our full range of PV mounting solutions at the three day event. Our AI driven tracking system was a real crowd favorite, lifting energy yield by up to ten percent even under scattered light conditions. We also displayed flexible agrivoltaic systems for various farm scenarios and lightweight roof mounting options for industrial and residential buildings. Plenty of industry visitors shared positive feedback after detailed on site introductions. Smart mounting design unlocks extra value for every solar project by fitting local conditions. We will keep delivering reliable support systems to advance Europe’s clean energy transition. The competition brought together 54 teams from 21 countries to advance sustainable marine technology through cleaner propulsion, improved energy efficiency, autonomous capabilities, and innovative vessel design. Swiss Solar Boat competed with Lobst’Air, a three-seater Renewable Energy Foiler powered by a hybrid solar-hydrogen system. Designed for performance and autonomy, the vessel combines green hydrogen, solar energy, electric propulsion, and hydrofoil technology in one ambitious engineering platform. We are proud to have supported a small part of that journey. The team used Speedgoat as a central real-time control platform for the propulsion system. Described by Swiss Solar Boat as the “brain of the boat,” it communicated with the electronic speed controllers over CAN and helped the engineers test and characterize the motors under different load and speed conditions before integrating them into the vessel. That ability to validate controls before going onto the water is especially valuable in marine development, where real-world trials can be limited, costly, and dependent on weather and operating conditions. Real-time testing helps engineers refine functionality beforehand and gain more value from every run. On 2 July, ASCA participated with 15 other partners in the kick-off meeting of the new Horizon Europe project REGENIOUS. Led by Envirohemp S.L., the consortium of partners are brought together from across Europe to advance more sustainable and energy-efficient water treatment solutions. At ASCA, we are proud to play a key role in the project by leading Task 5.3 – "Integration of Renewable Energy Options." Our mission is to demonstrate how organic photovoltaics can directly power portable electrochemical regeneration (ER) systems, enabling clean, decentralized energy generation exactly where it is needed. Our contribution focuses on: - Integrating lightweight, flexible OPV modules into the portable regeneration systems. - Electrically coupling the OPV modules with the electrochemical regeneration technology. - Increasing the efficiency of our semi-transparent OPV modules from 6% to beyond 10%. - Developing an easy-to-install, retrofit module concept that can be attached to the side walls of the portable systems. By combining innovative organic photovoltaics with electrochemical regeneration, REGENIOUS aims to reduce the environmental footprint of water treatment while accelerating the transition toward a more circular and climate-neutral industry. ☀️ Presentation Spotlight | FuturePV2 Workshop At the FuturePV2 Workshop, hosted by the TESTARE Project at the University of Cyprus, Savannah Bennett from Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) shared insights from the CircularPV project in her presentation: "A Multi-Metric Framework for Material Selection in Perovskite Modules: Implications for Sustainability, Scalability, and Net Zero Deployment." The presentation introduced a comprehensive framework for evaluating material choices using multiple sustainability metrics, helping to identify solutions that support circularity, scalable manufacturing, and the transition towards net-zero photovoltaic technologies. Swiss cleantech innovation is transforming underground spaces into renewable energy sources. 🇨🇭 Born at EPFL, Enerdrape has developed geothermal panels that can be installed on underground surfaces such as parking garages, tunnels, and storage areas, without drilling or excavation. Some key highlights: 🔹 The panels recover local thermal energy for building heating and cooling when connected to a heat pump. 🔹 The solution is designed for urban environments and existing buildings. 🔹 In Lancy, 72 panels generate 18 MWh of heat annually for municipal offices. 🔹 In Paris, 145 panels provide energy for 72 homes while helping avoid 23 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
