You've booked a networking chat. Now, how can you make the most of it? Whether you’re meeting IRL or virtually, career coach and founder of Workhap Sho Dewan recommends taking the lead to make the conversation as easy as possible for the other person. Sho suggests starting any networking conversation with something along the lines of: “I’d love to use this 30 minutes to learn about you and your career. Looking at your profile, I see you’ve done so many great things. How'd you get your start? Why does this work? Driving the conversation takes the pressure off the other person and personalizing it shows you’ve done your research. When people feel valued, they're more willing to help. Sho has even more advice for building meaningful relationships in his new LinkedIn Learning course. He’s teaming up with real professionals as they put themselves out there and explore new opportunities.  Watch the full “Networking in Action” course here ➡️ [https://lnkd.in/gFxnrscY]

  • Going from "I have a great idea" to launching a business can feel overwhelming fast.  Despite this, more people than ever are taking the risk. In a new LinkedIn Learning course, entrepreneur and founder Candace Nelson is sharing her story to help this new wave of solopreneurs find success. Long before scaling Sprinkles Cupcakes into a global icon or building hit concepts like Pizzana, Candace was sleeping on the bakery floor just to get her first store open. She’s built businesses from scratch and learned firsthand how to turn raw passion into a profitable reality. Her biggest takeaway for early-stage founders? Breakthroughs come from questioning convention and validating your idea early. In “Building a Business Step by Step,” Candace breaks down the exact framework to help you move from idea to execution: ☑️ Claim your lane: Craft a sharp, one-sentence value proposition that clearly sets your brand apart. ☑️ Validate fast: Test real customer demand before taking big financial risks. ☑️ Scale the magic: Build simple operational systems so your business can grow without burning you out. If you’ve been sitting on an idea, you don't have to figure out the first steps alone. • Negotiation is not always about splitting the pie. Sometimes the best move is to make the pie bigger. 🥧 Kwame Christian, Esq., M.A. explains how looking beyond one path can open up more possibilities for both sides. A conversation that feels stuck can become a chance to solve the problem together. • How prepared is too prepared when it comes to networking?  Sho Dewan challenges a real jobseeker in San Francisco, a mid-career mom looking to grow her tech career, to find out. He explains that before you can get confident, you’ve got to get uncomfortable. The career coach and founder of Workhap says, “Sometimes it can backfire when you want to have everything right before you take action.” In a new LinkedIn Learning course, Sho helps three professionals navigate the ups and downs of making connections in a tough job market. He frames networking as a muscle that needs IRL practice. Focus on connection instead of overpreparation. Why? Perfection can stall progress. Sho’s advice is put to the test at a women in tech event where our jobseeker “rips off the Band-Aid” and is pushed outside her comfort zone. Does her risk-taking pay off? • What if your next AI app didn't need the cloud? 💻 Laurence Moroney shows how quickly a downloaded Gemma model can become a private, conversational assistant running on your own hardware.
