60s Movements

This text seeks to approach Brazilian realism in the 60’s by looking at the thought and work of Sergio Ferro and Flavio Imperio. After a general analysis of realism in visual arts, we examine how the intellectual orientation of Flavio Imperio’s set design practice at Arena Theatre company and the critical debate on architecture led by Sergio Ferro intertwine. It is possible to notice a convergence in their practice, although set in different fields, when we look at their critique of a realism that was not able to acknowledge Brazilian social reality

A Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo estabeleceu eixo difusor e condutor de princípios éticos e estéticos, referenciados na responsabilidade social do arquiteto nas décadas de 50 e 60, por meio da liderança do mestre João Batista Vilanova Artigas. Jorge Oswaldo Caron (1936/2000), ex-aluno da FAU-USP, atuou como arquiteto e urbanista, educador, paisagista, designer, cenógrafo, cineasta e agitador cultural, e trabalhou intensamente no campo constitutivo do ambiente de luta pela formação cultural do país. Trata-se do desenho inédito de um retrato, executado a partir do resgate de memórias e do estudo sistematizado do acervo do arquiteto.

It approaches the relation in Sergio Ferro's first production side by side with Flavio Imperio and Rodrigo Lefevre and with the Sao Paulo modern architecture scene in terms of its ideology and language scope before the 1964 military coup and the radical criticism that they would later elaborate. Witch it affiliated to the Brazilian Marxist intellectual interpretive approach, which was related to the duality between archaic and modern. It enlightens the commitment of their ideas to users and architects with a view for a solution for the housing construction with social concern. It is about bourgeois residences designed by Ferro, characterized by construction sites served as heterogeneous manufacturing laboratories - Boris Fausto’s house, in Sao Paulo - and organic manufacture - Bernardo Isller’s house, in Cotia – this one in a dome design.

Este artículo se encuadra en el marco de las investigaciones realizadas durante el desarrollo de un proyecto de investigación de la Facultad de Ciencia Política y RR.II. de la Universidad Nacional de Rosario, y expone una tipología posible de los usos generales que se ha hecho de las publicaciones periódicas gráficas desde su estabilización, en el siglo XXI, como fenómeno mediático característico del proceso de mediatización contemporáneo. Al conceptualizarlas como archivo, documento, testimonio y/o actor social, los diferentes abordajes de las publicaciones periódicas gráficas han permitido acercarse a la sensibilidad político-cultural de una época, proyectar saberes o repensar las funciones de los medios como productores de sentido.

Este artigo foi extraído da pesquisa finalizada em 2010 intitulada USINA: uma Experiência de Trabalho Associado entre Arquitetos e Arquitetas Militantes, que objetivou conhecer como se organizou e desenvolveu essa experiência de trabalho associado, recuperando a 'história de vida' do empreendimento, identificando e analisando eventuais mudanças na organização do trabalho, nos objetivos e nas atividades, privilegiando a ótica das relações de gênero. Essa pesquisa foi desenvolvida no Departamento de Pesquisas Educacionais da Fundação Carlos Chagas com financiamento do CNPq, esteve associada ao projeto A Crise do Trabalho e as Experiências de Geração de Emprego e Renda: as Distintas Faces do Trabalho

Τα θεωρητικά κείμενα που ο Γιάννης Χρήστου (1926-1970) έγραψε προκειμένου να δημοσιευτούν, υπήρξαν ελάχιστα. Στην ουσία, πέρα από σύντομα «προγραμματικά» σημειώματα συναυλιών, μόνο το μανιφεστωτικό "Ένα «Πιστεύω» για τη Μουσική" του 1966, δημοσιευμένο στο περιοδικό Εποχές, υπήρξε ένα ολοκληρωμένο κείμενο. Με τη δημοσίευση αυτή (τεύχος 5, Ιαν-Απρ 2020), έρχεται για πρώτη φορά στη δημοσιότητα ένα σημείωμα του συνθέτη – επίσης κατά το 1966 – στο οποίο καταθέτει την άποψή του για τη λειτουργία του ιστορικού πολιτιστικού θεσμού, αλλά και την επιτακτική αναγκαιότητα μιας ριζικής αναμόρφωσής του. Στις οκτώ δακτυλογραφημένες σελίδες του – που για άγνωστο λόγο δεν δημοσιεύτηκαν ποτέ – ο Χρήστου αναπτύσσει έντονη κριτική στον σχεδιασμό και την υλοποίηση της φεστιβαλικής παραγωγής, αναφορικά κυρίως με τη αντιμετώπιση του Αρχαίου Δράματος και της σύγχρονης μουσικής δημιουργίας, καταλήγοντας σε μια σειρά τολμηρών προτάσεων και θέσεων για την αναζωογόνηση του θεσμού. Μαζί με τη μετάφραση και παράθεση ολόκληρου του κειμένου του Χρήστου, στο άρθρο υπάρχει εκτενής σχολιασμός όσο αφορά την ιδιαίτερη εποχή αλλά και τις συνθήκες κάτω από τις οποίες αυτό συντάχθηκε.

Συμπεριλαμβάνεται και η δημοσίευση με τίτλο «Μία αδημοσίευτη επιστολή από το 1967» από το ίδιο τεύχος, με αντικείμενο μια επιστολή που ο Χρήστου σχεδίαζε να στείλει σε αθηναϊκή εφημερίδα - και η οποία απηχεί το πνεύμα κάτω από το οποίο ο συνθέτης οραματιζόταν τη σύγχρονη μουσική δημιουργία του τόπου και τους θεσμούς της.

'Wageningen kent eigenlijk geen campusidee; er zijn gebouwen in het centrum en gebouwen verspreid over verschillende terreinen. De Eindhovense campus kenmerkt zich door de sterk functionele jaren zestig-gebouwen. Daar raakte ik toen niet bepaald door geïnspireerd. Ik heb in het voormalige Scheikundegebouw gestudeerd.

En el presente artículo nos sumergimos en la película 1, 2, 3… al esconditeinglés (Iván Zulueta, 1969), sin duda el ejemplo más paradigmático del cinepop español. La primera película del que pasaría a la historia como un cineasta maldito, el donostiarra Iván Zulueta, es un ejemplo incipiente de discurso contracultural y contrahegemónico en los últimos años de un régimen franquista abocado a la apertura internacional. La sucesión de secuencias musicales, casi videoclips de los grupos del momento, es una declaración de intenciones audiovisual que define perfectamente los anhelos musicales y sociales de una generación ansiosa de libertad.

The music market of Hungary was manipulated by state authorities and the communist party from the 1960s until the 1980s. That distorted environment is the reason why the careers of two of the greatest Hungarian beat stars of the Sixties differed so much: Levente Szörényi and Zorán Sztevanovity were both partially or fully of Serbian origin, both were lead singers of their bands, and both were (in the first phase of their career) very careful with politics; however, their Serbian heritage and their family experiences were totally different, which explains their different behaviour during and after the Beat Revolution in Hungary.

V súčasnosti sa do vyučovacieho procesu na hodinách dejepisu dostávajú aj iné spôsoby odovzdávania informácií žiakom než len prostredníctvom výkladu učiteľa. Čoraz viac sa skloňuje pojem film či aplikácia audiovizuálnych ukážok do vyučovania. Preto svoj príspevok zameriam na využitie filmov v školskej praxi. Prvá časť predstavuje multiperspektivitu a jej využitie v dejepisnom vyučovaní. Príspevok je v ďalšej časti zameraný na možnosti využívania filmov, či už súčasných alebo dobových, a tiež na dôvody, prečo vôbec film do aktivít na hodine zaradiť. V závere článok obsahuje odporúčania na viaceré knihy a články, ktoré môžu byť dobrým pomocníkom pre každého učiteľa dejepisu.

  In the mid 1960’s, in the midst of a climate of technological excitement, the impact of mass media and mass culture was processed artistically in a number of ways: not just as a reference to or quote (apologetic or critical) of the imaginaria of television, film and advertising, the icons of mass culture, but also as a medium, a technique and as a materiality.
During the early stages of the still unnamed conceptualism some Argentine avantgarde artists began to experiment with mass media and information technology. In this sense, they hearkened back to some of the experiences carried out at the Di Tella Institute, especially the happenings and environments of Marta Minujín. There were other artists, other works. Recently a nucleus of artists and theorists garnered growing attention for the creation in 1966 of a “new genre” they called “Arte de los Medios de comunicación de masas” (Mass Communication Media Art).
Although this was a confined effort, crystallized in only a few works and a smattering of texts and manifestos, it implied sharp reflection on the part of its twenty-something promoters (Roberto Jacoby, Eduardo Costa and Raúl Escari and the also young intellectuals involved in the process, Eliseo Verón and especially Oscar Masotta). The latter was an advanced figure in the cultural world for the breadth of his activity (literary criticism in the 1950’s, experimental artistic practice and theory and the diffusion of the comic strip in the 1960’s and the introduction of Lacanian psychoanalysis in Spanish in the 1970’s). Sporadically associated with the School of Arts and Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires, Masotta was involved with Contorno (1953-59), remembered as an early milestone of a new kind of literary criticism and intellectual activity. Its members, influenced by Sartrian existentialism mixed with a markedly Hegelian Marxism, stood apart from the “official” left as well as from the ”traditional liberals who still held a hegemony over the cultural domain”.
During the decade we are dealing with, Masotta introduced and was the main propagator of new ideas (derived from structuralism, semiology and other paradigms of contemporary thought) in the arts, and he did not fail to point out the historical correlation between the growth of mass information media and contemporary art.
The emphasis on information circuits and theories of the sign was one of the approaches adopted by the “conceptualist turn” and the Utopia of an enlarged life based on expanding the boundaries of artistic experience. In their most radical propositions, these artists did not extrapolate media technology devices to convert them into
aesthetic objects. They went beyond that. They actually created their works inside circuits of mass communication. It was there that they saw art being reconnected with culture of the masses, its unprecedented expansion towards a mass audience receptor, the possibility of
inciting a critical consciousness in the viewer and even a potential political tool.

Syrius was a Hungarian jazz-rock band playing between 1970 and 1973, spent almost a year in Australia. Its marginalized position in the popular music field and its media presence ever since reveals some crucial aspects of both socialist and capitalist cultural policies before and after 1990. The paper examines the meaning of the concept ‘underground’ via historical and current documents, also the DIY practices of the band’s audience. The method leans on current papers of popular music studies, focusing on DIY preservation and cultural heritage. By presenting the documentation, which relates the story of the band, the problematic usage of terms describing musical styles as well as the ambivalent nature of socialist and capitalist cultural policies, both affecting the narrative of Hungarian popular music, might be shown.

A tanulmány az underground fogalmának műfaji és kultúrpolitikai jelentését reprezentálja az egy évet Ausztráliában töltő Syrius zenekar és a róluk szóló dokumentumok, valamint a rajongói diskurzus alapján. A dolgozatban a populáris zenekutatás kurrens írásai mentén a kulturális örökség és az amatőr megőrzés kérdésköre kerül előtérbe. A magyar progresszív rock, jazzrock első számú együttesének recepciója érdekes lenyomata a szocialista és a kapitalista kultúrpolitika gyakorlatainak, prezentálja a töredékes megőrzés, és a következetlen műfajmeghatározás hatását a magyar populáris zenetörténet, és a magyar kulturális örökség narratívájára.

A 2014-ben Ser Ádámmal közösen elindított jazzkutatásunk, a budapesti jazz-színtér kulturális és társadalmi rétegeződésének elemeit vizsgálja, mélyinterjús és kérdőíves technikákkal, elsősorban a kultúraszociológia nézőpontjából, alapvetően Pierre Bourdieu mezőelméletének relacionális logikájára támaszkodva. A kutatási kérdések elsősorban arra irányulnak, hogy a különböző stílusokat képviselő muzsikusok mint „kreatív munkavállalók”, milyen legitimációs konfliktusok és praxisok révén alkotják meg zenei identitásukat. 
Az értekezés empirikus fejezetiben műfajon belüli rétegződés esztétikával, tradíció-értelmezéssel és meghatározott esztétikai pozíciókhoz kötött megélhetési stratégiákkal kapcsolatos szempontjait elemeztem. Az elemzés során kifejtem, hogy a „tiszta” free és mainstream pólusok jól rekonstruálható oppozíciós rendszerré állnak össze (lásd a disszertáció 1. táblázatának oppozíciós párjait), mely alapvetően meghatározza az esztétikai praxisokat és a presztízsszerzés logikáját:

• Egyik fő következtetésem szerint, a zenei identitások konstrukciója során nem a kategóriák, hanem a pozíciókhoz köthető alkalmazásmódjaik, interpretációik különböznek. A mainstream és free zenészek nézőpontjából származó interjúrészletek és kritikák lényege megragadható a progresszív-tradicionalista, múltközpontú-jelenidejű, ideologikus-esztétikai és újító-ortodox ellentétpárok révén.

A zenei habitus Bourdieu nyomán alkotott koncepciójával vizsgáltam a roma származású, zenészcsaládba született jazz-zenészek zenéhez való viszonyát és esztétikai gyakorlatait. Az elemzés során a történetileg kondicionált zenei diszpozíciók különböző dimenzióit világítottam meg, elsősorban a zenei szocializáció és család, valamint az életstílus és esztétikai preferenciák szempontjából.

• Fő következtetésem szerint a mainstream jazz elitnek tételezett csoport esztétikai gyakorlatai a szocializáció során újratermelt diszpozíciókkal vannak összefüggésben, mely szélsőséges esetben a zenei „anti-intellektualizmusban” ragadható meg, melynek legitimációja vérségi és „genetikai” alapon konstruálódik, szemben pl. a free jazz-zenészek tudós referenciák kölcsönözte legitimitásával, mely az „autonóm művész zenén túlmutató ethoszát” hangsúlyozza.
• Az esztétikai értelemben vett ortodoxia a társadalmi mezőben betöltött pozícióval van összefüggésben: a dominált etnikum domináns frakciója, a zenészcsaládba született magyarcigányok számára a mainstream jazzhez való „dogmatikus” ragaszkodás státuszlegitimáló elem.
Az értekezés során alkalmazott mezőelemzéssel (field analysis) Bourdieu kultúraszociológiájának honi legitimációját is kívántam növelni. Bízom benne, hogy a módszertani fejezetben foglalt konceptualizálással és operacionalizálással kapcsolatos problémák kifejtése, valamint az empirikus elemzések hozzájárulnak egyfajta „magyar Bourdieu” megteremtéséhez, mely az értekezés egyik fő elméleti és tudományos tétje.

The presented article is an analysis of the reception of Shuji Terayama’s art in context of his postulates. The controversial films and daring performing acts of Terayama are the inspirations for the young generations of independent artists until this day. The director’s main pursuit was connected with the effort to transfer his vision of a new,
derived from traditional culture, art into the viewer’s minds. To accomplish his goal Terayama took inspiration from Antonin Artaud’s theatre conventions and presented his vision of body transgressions and refusal of social norms. The presented article shows  the  controversies  connected  with  the  reception  of  Terayama’s  art,  resulting from the complicated way of presenting the postulates by the author himself.

De ser una especie de institución en la que, al parecer, se movían cuestiones de Estado, Eurovisión ha pasado en cuarenta años a convertirse en un escenario donde lo único que parece moverse es el malestar que nos produce sabernos colaboradores de una representación que ya no nos representa. Parece como si el seguir condenados a escoger en un mundo donde ya no existen alternativas, nos hiciera sentir que todo es posible y que, a la vez, nada podemos hacer. Así se explicaría, quizá, ese disfrute y esa rabia que parecen acompañar a cada uno de nuestros gestos que, cada vez con más intensidad, cada vez más a menudo, realizamos siempre que nuestra vida nos lo permite. ¿Es éste, quizá, el sentido del humor al que hacía referencia Rodolfo Chiquilicuatre?. 4. januára 1967 vychádza pod značkou Electra records album, ktorý zmenil tvár populárnej hudby - album americkej skupiny The Doors! Skupina ním odštartovali svoju hviezdnu kariéru a zadefinovali žáner psychedelický rock v USA. Pri príležitosti 40. výročia skupiny The Doors vyšiel v roku 2006 Perception Box Set, ktorý obsahuje remasterované skladby The Doors spolu s exklúzivnými DVD nosičmi. V kolekcii Perception album obsahuje nielen remasterované verzie všetkých skladieb, ale aj tri bonusy (vokálnu verziu Indian Summer a dve alternatívne verzie skladby Moonlight Drive z roku 1966). V rámci výročia úmrtia Jima Morrisona v roku 2011 vyšiel album opäť pod Elektra Records a vydavateľstva Rhino v rámci A Collection, ktorá obsahuje album s pôvodnými skladbami. Vydajte sa na hudobný trip, kde temné a poetické texty doprevádzajú traja excelentní hudobníci. Otvorte si svoje dvere vnímania a ochutnajte ušami slasť hudby šesťdesiatych rokov 20. storočia.

Predmetom článku je interpretácia hudobno-biografického filmu The Doors z roku 1991 s dôrazom na socio-kultúrny kontext prelomu šesťdesiatych a sedemdesiatych rokov 20. storočia. Film (spolu s hudbou kapely) do veľkej miery ovplyvnil kontrakultúru deväťdesiatych rokov 20. storočia a v konečnom dôsledku aj popularitu hudobnej skupiny The Doors v tomto období, ktorá pretrváva dodnes.

This thesis describes the context of the democratization of the faculty of Architecture in the year 1969. In the period after the Second World War there was no consensus on how to solve the housing crisis in the Netherlands. On the one hand the traditionalists tried to use the values and standards of the time before the war, on the other hand the modernists tried to use their abstract ideals to solve the problems. In the sixties both the modernists and the traditionalists are in a crisis with themselves and the growing population of architecture students in Delft and Eindhoven are beginning to criticize the way they are taught. The education of the faculty was too much based on the old-fashioned vision of the architect as a craftsman. Change was needed, so the students, with the leadership of study association Stylos, stood up for themselves and declared the democratization of the faculty. Unfortunately the democratization was a chaos and only caused the creation of an archipelago of different departments, with each their own way of broadening their academic scope. The growing criticism was not only present at the architecture schools but also in the architectural and urbanism practise. The users wanted more and more to have a say in the process of the building of large housing projects. They demanded diversity and quality. The democratization at the faculty and the changes in architecture from a technocratic one to the introspective one of the seventies, were tendencies that evolved parallel to each other.

Problematika významu progresívnej hudobnej kultúry so zameraním na psychedelický rock a kraut-rock v rámci tzv. kontrakultúry je vo vedeckej monografii reflektovaná z viacerých interdisciplinárnych, kulturologických a filozoficko-estetických hľadísk – skúma vzájomné vzťahy a prieniky hudby, životného štýlu s filozofiou, resp. svetonázorom a politickými východiskami kontrakultúry daného obdobia. Odborná reflexia témy sa pohybuje od uchopenia kontrakultúrnych fenoménov vo všeobecnosti až po jej konkrétne prejavy v tzv. kraut-rockovej subkultúre vo vtedajšej Nemeckej spolkovej republike (v komparácii so situáciou vo svete).

El trabajo se enmarca dentro de las investigaciones del PID “Ideas y debates en las publicaciones de una década conflictiva. Los sesenta en Rosario”, dirigido por la Prof. Myriam Stanley, y expone una tipología posible de los usos generales que se ha hecho de las publicaciones gráficas desde los inicios de la mediatización. Archivo, documento, testimonio y actor social, los diferentes abordajes en los estudios de sus páginas han permitido acercarse a la sensibilidad político-cultural de una época, proyectar saberes o repensar las funciones de los medios como productores de sentido.
