Eine starke Partnerschaft ist erneuert! 💪 Seit über 20 Jahren arbeiten wir erfolgreich mit dem Goethe-Institut e.V. zusammen – in den Bereichen Kultur, Bildung und internationale Zusammenarbeit. Gemeinsam leisten wir auch einen wichtigen Beitrag zu einer fairen Ausbildungs- und Arbeitsmigration, von der alle Seiten profitieren: Sie hilft uns hier in Deutschland, indem sie den Fachkräftemangel mindert. Sie hilft Migrant*innen, ihre Lebensperspektiven zu verbessern. Und sie hilft der Wirtschaft in den Herkunftsländern – über Geldüberweisungen der Migrant*innen oder Fachkräfte, die ins Land zurückkehren. Zusammen sorgen wir dafür, dass Migrant*innen gut informierte Entscheidungen treffen und bestmöglich auf das Leben und Arbeiten in Deutschland vorbereitet werden. Gemeinsam Brücken bauen – durch Sprache, Bildung und internationale Zusammenarbeit. Genau dafür steht die Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Goethe-Institut e.V.-und der Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH. Letzte Woche haben wir unsere Kooperation erneuert. Ein wichtiger Schritt, um unsere langjährige Partnerschaft weiter auszubauen und gemeinsam noch mehr Wirkung für nachhaltige Entwicklung zu erzielen. Das Goethe-Institut ist für die GIZ ein strategischer Partner mit einer starken internationalen Präsenz. Es besitzt eine hohe Glaubwürdigkeit und ist, ebenso wie wir, tief in vielen Ländern weltweit verankert. Gemeinsam vereinen wir unterschiedliche Stärken. Das wird besonders im Bereich der fairen Arbeitsmigration deutlich. In Programmen wie den Zentren für Migration und Entwicklung (ZME), der Global Skills Partnerships, THAMM Plus oder PAM zeigen wir, wie Sprachförderung, Qualifizierung und internationale Zusammenarbeit ineinandergreifen. Faire Fachkräftegewinnung braucht gute Vorbereitung, transparente Verfahren und starke Partner und genau da ergänzen sich unsere Kompetenzen perfekt. Gerade in einer Zeit globaler Herausforderungen sind Institutionen gefragt, die Vertrauen schaffen, Menschen miteinander verbinden und nachhaltige Lösungen ermöglichen. For more than 50 years, we have been working on issues that are also relevant to German and European companies – from skills development to resource security, and as a gateway to developing and emerging markets. We operate in 120 countries and have a deep understanding of the people and markets there. We have strong networks at local, international and German business levels. Over the past 25 years, we have worked with over 1,000 German companies to implement public-private partnerships as part of the develoPPP programme. Thanks to the work of the Import Promotion Desk, 2,600 German companies have been successfully matched with exporters from partner countries. And through the Agency for Business and Economic Development, we have advised more than 1,000 business stakeholders on development cooperation support and financing instruments. A handful of private technology companies are expected to invest around USD 650 billion in AI infrastructure in 2026 alone. This figure came up during our discussion at the Business Leaders Forum “New Global Realities – How Geopolitical Shifts are Repositioning European Businesses” at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference. As technological innovation is driven by private actors, building digital sovereignty requires new forms of cooperation between governments, business, investors and innovators. Digital sovereignty is not only about technology. It is also about the ability to build competitive ecosystems around it. This is where stronger Europe-Africa partnerships matter. Europe brings technology, investment and expertise. Africa brings dynamic innovation ecosystems, entrepreneurial talent and rapidly growing digital markets. At Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, we are helping to build the partnerships and investment pathways that connect these strengths. Through ICAMA - Innovative Capital Mobilisation in Africa, we work with African and European partners to mobilise capital, strengthen innovation ecosystems and create trusted co-investment opportunities across both continents. Experts are key to achieve the transition to a climate-friendly economy. We help to identify the need for ‘green’ skills and develop curricula. We advise schools and universities and ensure that businesses are involved at an early stage. In 2024 alone, 230,000 people worldwide completed a vocational training programme supported by us. To this end, we cooperate, for example, with Siemens Energy, Schneider Electric, Festo Didactic and other German and European partner companies. Without qualified skilled workers, the 1.5-degree climate target cannot be achieved. This is another reason why, last year at the UN Climate Change Conference, we founded the ‘Global Initiative on Jobs and Skills for the New Economy’ together with partners from politics, business and academia – an initiative that was also presented yesterday at #HSC26. The transition to a low-carbon economy could create an estimated 375 million new jobs over the next ten years, particularly in the sectors of renewable energy, construction and nature-based solutions. Yesterday at #HSC, we discussed 'Why Climate Action Can Become One of the World’s Biggest Job Creators' an inspiring High-Level Roundtable. Leaders from government, private sector, finance and civil society discussed how we can move from ambition to action and harness the opportunities of the transition. Thanks to all the amazing speakers and participants who shared their insights and contributed to this exciting and timely discussion – Minister Rachmat Pambudy, Director-General Dr. Heike Henn, Pacifica F. Achieng Ogola, PhD, Sabine Dall'Omo, Heiko Scholz, Jamie Fergusson, Toni J E Beukes Cert.Dir., Liesbet Steer, Ani Dasgupta and so many more! The message is clear: If we put people at the center, the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy can become a growth story. The Global Initiative on Jobs & Skills for the New Economy (JSNE) will continue supporting governments and industry in implementing the Action Agenda. JSNE was launched by the COP30 Brazil Presidency together with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, World Resources Institute, Systemiq Ltd., Ares Management Charitable Foundation, NDC Partnership, a number of champion governments and international partners and supported by International Climate Initiative. We invite all of you to stay engaged and connected as our implementation work moves forward with our partner countries. I would like to share a few reflections and key takeaways: 📈Investing in people pays off: Investing in green skills and jobs speeds climate progress, strengthens economies, and builds social cohesion. Countries who do not invest in skills for the green transition risk falling behind. 🤝Building a public-private coalition is essential: Business leadership is key to aligning training with labour-market demand, scaling solutions, and mobilizing finance. The JSNE initiative cooperates closely with the COP31 Türkiye presidency and the SB COP30 to highlight the role of the private sector in delivering green skills at scale. 🧩Scaling what works: Public–private partnerships, employer-led training, blended finance and targeted national strategies drive scalable, inclusive workforce development. We heard from many inspiring examples during this roundtable that show how commitment can be translated into concrete action at scale. On the road to #COP31 let us keep the momentum going and join forces for the acceleration of green skills and jobs, so #climateaction delivers for people through #betterjobs, stronger skills systems, and #inclusivegrowth. How can we harness migration as a driver of competitiveness and economic growth? This will be discussed today from 5–6 pm at #HSC26 and broadcast via live stream. ♻️ Reuse works – when the system makes it easy. Refill stations in small shops cut waste right at the source. Deposit-return bottles circulate for years. Reusable containers replace thousands of disposable packages. Tomorrow is #WorldRefillDay – and we share new evidence on what it takes to make reuse last. We analysed reuse systems across Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. We wanted to know: what drives people to adopt reuse – and what makes them stop? ✅ Reuse takes hold when it costs less, saves time and fits into daily life. It works best when women, low-income households and informal workers help shape the design from the start. 🌿 Production processes account for 45% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Circular approaches – reuse, repair, and circular product design – can cut these by almost half. They also create sustainable jobs and demand for green skills. 🌱 Smarter organic waste management adds to this potential. After all, waste is the third-largest source of methane emissions globally.
