Base71 Youth Zone

As a young charity, every gift that we receive is hugely valued. Not only for the funds that it brings into our charity but for the confidence it gives us. We are hugely grateful to Morley Glass & Glazing Ltd for their generous gift to Base71 Youth Zone art team, which means that our art supplies can be replenished. So much of our art is based on recycling projects, and to learn that Morley Glass & Glazing Ltd fund their community foundation through the collection and recycling of post-consumer glass was a full-circle moment. Our art projects provide a space for young people to get creative, develop new skills and form friendships. As a quieter room, it can be a space where our youth work comes to the fore, as young people talk about the challenges in their lives. A huge thank you to Morley Glass & Glazing Ltd for their generosity and to Yorkshire Children's Charity for your support with the process.

We were so thrilled to attend the Insider Media South Yorkshire Property Dinner last night and to come away as winners of the Outstanding Development of the Year, sponsored by BRM. Our CEO, Mandy Carlson, and Head of HR and Operations, Rebecca Clarke, were delighted to receive the award from Claire Mayfield-Tulip of BRM This follows on fast from the Commendation for best project that we received at the Royal Town Planning Institute Yorkshire Awards for Planning Excellence, just last week. Base71 Youth Zone purpose-built building gives up to 200 young people a day, from Barnsley, access to amazing sports, creative arts, life skills and employability activities, seven days a week. Our building’s design responded to a number of challenges arising from the site’s location, shape, level changes and ground contamination. Following the build, a 300 per cent increase in site biodiversity was also achieved. Our building is bright and bold, and it is matched by our ambition to create a step change in the futures of our members who grow in confidence, self-esteem and skills every time they visit Base71 Youth Zone. So many people made this award possible. We have finally come down from the high of the Barnsley 10K. Base71 Youth Zone had a fantastic day with our amazing runners and being part of the Barnsley community. Meeting people on Glass Works Square, cheering on all of the event runners and thanking those amazing people who ran in aid of Base71 Youth Zone and Barnsley's young people.
