Energy Source & Distribution recently covered the microgrid renewable system being delivered for Koompartu Farms, an Australian project of the RRG Sustainable Water Impact Fund (SWIF), in South Australia’s Riverland region. The article notes that the project is expected to be one of the largest privately owned non-mining microgrids in Australia. That scale matters because Koompartu Farms is a large agricultural operation where energy reliability directly supports critical irrigation systems and day-to-day production. The project includes solar generation, battery energy storage, backup generation, and underground high-voltage power lines. It is being delivered by AGL under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement, with AGL building, owning, operating, and maintaining the assets. For RRG Capital Management (RRG), this is one example of how sustainable agriculture depends on more than the crop itself. Water, energy, infrastructure, and operations all shape how agricultural assets perform over time. Hoymiles in Action | Smarter Energy for Modern Agriculture 🌾⚡ At a modern farm in Zeewolde, the Netherlands, vegetable processing, dairy farming, and cold storage create highly variable energy demand. While solar generation peaks during the day, electricity consumption doesn't always follow—reducing self-consumption and increasing operating costs. To bridge this gap, the farm deployed a 1 MW / 2.15 MWh energy storage system powered by 10 HoyUltra all-in-one C&I ESS units, enabling excess solar energy to be stored and dispatched precisely when production demands it most. Powered by HoyUltra: ✅ 100 kW / 215 kWh all-in-one ESS per unit ✅ Integrated EMS for peak shaving, demand control & load following ✅ Up to 98% conversion efficiency for optimized energy use ✅ Advanced liquid cooling & IP65-rated battery enclosure for reliable outdoor operation ✅ Plug-and-play architecture with flexible multi-unit expansion The result? Higher PV self-consumption, lower electricity costs, and a more resilient energy supply—helping accelerate the transition toward smarter and more sustainable agriculture across Europe. #HoymilesInAction #HoyUltra #EnergyStorage #CommercialStorage #Agriculture #Netherlands

Energy used to be a line item. Now it's a board-level decision. That was the theme of a piece in yesterday's Australian Financial Review, where I joined AGL 's Brendan Weinert to discuss how energy is reshaping the way businesses invest, operate and manage risk. For a horticultural operator, this is anything but abstract. At Koompartu Farms - South Australia's largest almond orchard - energy is one of our most significant and volatile inputs, and reliable irrigation is the difference between protecting a crop and losing it. So we've backed the thesis with infrastructure. Delivered through a power purchase agreement with AGL, our microgrid is built to meet Koompartu's 6.7 MW demand, source more than 85% of our power from on-site renewable generation and battery storage, and cut diesel generator use by around 88%. This is the RRG Capital Management (RRG) operator model at work. We don't simply allocate institutional capital into real assets - we build the infrastructure that de-risks them, stabilises operating costs, and compounds returns over the life of the investment. Energy resilience is now underwritten into every major decision we make. And for us, that's less a sustainability story than a competitiveness one - which is exactly why it now belongs in the boardroom. #agribusiness #energytransition #realassets

🐑 + ☀️ Agrivolatics, including solar grazing, has gained traction in recent years as people like Ely Valdez + JR Howard have proven ag and renewable energy can co-exist while generating vital profits for farmers and ranchers. 🔋 It's become so popular, groups like American Farmland Trust and American Solar Grazing Association (ASGA) are hosting trainings for farmers and others curious about the practice can learn more, including benefits and challenges. 🎤 “It’s really just ranching with solar panels in the way. This makes it so it doesn’t have to be power or agriculture, it can be both.” 📰 https://lnkd.in/gDCh76iq

As the renewable energy sector evolves, innovative concepts like agrivoltaics are gaining momentum. A recent article showcases how sheep grazing beneath solar arrays can help maintain solar sites while supporting agricultural activity, demonstrating how renewable energy infrastructure can create multiple layers of value from the same piece of land. This type of integrated thinking reflects the broader opportunities emerging across the solar industry as developers seek to optimize land use, improve sustainability outcomes, and strengthen community benefits. 🌱☀️ Austria has unveiled a pioneering agrivoltaics project that combines clean energy, sustainable farming and biodiversity on the same land. The 6.6 MW Donnerskirchen agrivoltaic plant uses single-axis trackers and is the first in Austria designed to supply electricity directly to the country’s railway power grid. Expected to generate around 8.3 GWh annually, the project will help power Austria’s low-carbon rail network while allowing organic farming to continue beneath the solar installation. The development highlights the growing potential of agrivoltaics to maximise land use by delivering renewable energy, supporting agriculture, and enhancing biodiversity simultaneously. 👉 https://ow.ly/yZwh50ZnaP3 #Agrivoltaics #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #CleanEnergy #Biodiversity

Can a Solar Pump Work Without Batteries? Many people believe that every solar water pumping system requires batteries to operate. In reality, that is one of the most common misconceptions in the industry. The answer is yes—most modern solar water pumping systems can work efficiently without batteries. How Does It Work? Instead of storing electricity in batteries, solar panels supply power directly to a solar pump inverter. The inverter uses advanced MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) technology to maximize the energy harvested from the photovoltaic panels and convert it into stable AC power for the pump. As sunlight changes throughout the day, the inverter automatically adjusts the pump's operating speed to make the best use of the available solar energy. Why Battery-Free Systems Are Becoming More Popular Choosing a battery-free solar pumping system offers several important advantages: Lower initial investment by eliminating expensive battery banks. Reduced maintenance since batteries require regular inspection and replacement. Longer system lifespan because batteries are often the shortest-lived component. Higher reliability with fewer parts that can fail. Better return on investment, especially for agricultural irrigation and rural water supply projects. What Happens on Cloudy Days? When solar radiation decreases, the inverter automatically reduces the pump speed instead of shutting down immediately. For projects that require continuous water supply, a hybrid solar pump inverter can seamlessly switch between solar power, the utility grid, or a generator to ensure uninterrupted operation. Is a Battery-Free System Right for Your Project? For most irrigation systems, livestock farms, community water supply projects, and industrial water pumping applications, a battery-free solution is the most economical and practical choice. Water storage tanks can serve as the "energy storage," reducing system complexity while ensuring a reliable water supply. At ZK Electric, we design and manufacture high-performance solar pump inverters that help customers maximize solar energy utilization, reduce operating costs, and build dependable water pumping systems for projects around the world. Do you still use batteries in your solar pumping system, or have you already switched to a battery-free solution? Share your experience in the comments—we'd love to hear your thoughts. #SolarPump #SolarPumpInverter #MPPT #SolarEnergy #WaterPumping #AgriculturalIrrigation #RenewableEnergy #HybridInverter #SustainableAgriculture #VFD
