📣 The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT has launched its new 2026–2030 Strategy, “Resilient Futures: Urgent Science for Food and Land Systems Transformation.” As climate change, biodiversity loss, malnutrition, and economic instability reshape our world, science-driven solutions are more urgent than ever. Rather than addressing these challenges separately, the Strategy advances an integrated transformation agenda. Working with partners around the world, the Alliance will conserve and harness agrobiodiversity, restore landscapes, strengthen food economies, improve diets, and mobilize finance for impact. 💦 The Lake Victoria Basin is home to more than 40 million people across 5 countries 🌍 It feeds the world's largest freshwater fishery and sustains farming, livestock and biodiversity across East Africa. But it's under growing pressure, and the data needed to protect it rarely reaches the people making decisions. 🌱 Land, water and ecosystem information sits scattered across institutions, in formats that are hard to access and even harder to share. In June, CGIAR Multifunctional Landscapes brought together government, research and community partners in Nairobi to map these gaps and design digital tools that actually serve the basin. The way forward is shared: early warning systems for floods and droughts, and a common geospatial data hub that puts landscape information within reach of every sector and county. 🐪☀️ At the peak of the 2023 drought, Shindia set out from Kenya's Chalbi Desert with 108 camels on a 480 km trek to market. Only 40 made it. Yet for pastoralists across the Horn of Africa, camels remain the ultimate asset: a steady source of milk, income and resilience as the climate grows less predictable. The numbers show why. The Horn of Africa hosts 19.1 million of the world's 41.8 million camels, and demand for camel milk and meat is growing fast. But knowledge gaps in camel health, genetics and productivity, plus milk losses of up to 50% in Kenya, are holding the sector back.
